World Languages and Cultures/Spanish

marret

Hola! I am Joseph Marret, Cario’s Spanish and World Language teacher.  I am excited to share my experiences with language and world travel in the classroom. Engaging students with culturally rich and authentic materials is my goal for every class. I believe that teaching and understanding cultures and languages of the world is vital to becoming a well-rounded student and empathetic global citizen.
I have always loved traveling and trying to learn as much as I can about other people’s culture and lifestyles. I want my students to understand that language can be their gateway to a world of never-ending history and adventure.
After receiving my bachelor’s degree in Spanish and Latin American Studies from Appalachian St. University in 2006, I moved to Santiago, Chile. It had always been a lifelong dream of mine to work and live abroad in a Spanish-speaking country, so I got a TEFL certification to teach English to mostly business professionals around the Chilean capital. Next, I landed in Buenos Aires, Argentina for 12 months teaching and improving my español. My love for teaching brought me back to my hometown of Charleston, where I met my wife and got married. We both moved to Bangkok, Thailand to teach at an international school for 3 incredible years. Thank you for welcoming me into your community.
